How to begin this story has been challenging me for sometime. For that matter, I can’t be precise on how it’s going to end. But, I do know that life’s quirks of fate sure are special when you take the time to see them.
My name is Dustin. On the web I go by the screen name thorstone137 (we’ll get into why a little later). Today is Oct. 22 2009 and my very first blog post was 4 years ago today (Something I just realized and was just about to paste that very post here!). Why is that so special? Well, because of the many leaps of faith in my life it was the first that was documented (OK.. there might have been one other time….). I remember a friend (who I was having a hard time being friends with at the time and who I was discussing a post with) refer to it as “your little page” (she also told me that I was crazy and that it was o.k. because the greatest writers were all nuts – women!). At the time her tone just solidified my feelings about her; the fact that she didn’t really see me for who I was, who I wanted to be, and how I was trying to show her. Then and now I understand why she felt that way, and even today some could say the same about everything else I post. It simply seems to me that very conflict is the source of every great success story.
The theme of this story is acceptance and it’s place on our journeys to redemption. I’m calling it an exposition of the hero’s journey based on personal experiences; along the way I will be sharing poems, prose that can be either interpreted as actual experience or as dreams. This is also an experiment in documenting the creative process. While I’m letting fate and serendipity makes its way into the process I hope I will find some kind of flow that can be used to form a montage. It will also be an exploration into contextual storytelling via new media. As the story progresses I hope that the experience can become richer and more interactive. I can’t promise you’ll like what you hear, but what you see today might not be here tomorrow, so you’d better pay attention, you wouldn’t want to miss anything!
